Literacy and Youth Entrepreneurship Skills Programs

Digital Literacy

We collaborate with schools in low income areas to set up computer labs that serve as hubs for children and youth to access basic digital literacy and STEM. Here is our journey in transforming the empty space at Ushirika School, into a digital lab.

Upon setting up the computer lab, Code Yetu, an organization of passionate software engineers train the children on :

  • Basic computer skills
  • HTML and CSS for web development
  • Scratch for introductory programming
  • Artificial Intelligence concepts
  • Robotics fundamentals
  • Game development basics

Libraries

We partner with schools in under-resourced areas to create libraries providing access to a study space, curriculum and non curriculum books. Our children also access free tutoring sessions from volunteer university students. It is a safe haven where children can explore worlds beyond their own through books and education.

Here is our journey at Ushirika school in Kibera Slum transforming an empty space into a conducive library. Through fund drives, book drives and support from various partners, we continuously update the library with books even as the curriculum changes.
